This gun sure appears to have been "cleaned up"  some,  but it is an excellent job at it without loosing the "history" of this piece.  This is one sweet little shot!

Action Type: Single Shot Breech Loading, Falling Block

Markings:  The top of the receiver is marked The bottom tang is marked “9037”. .  The top of the barrel is marked “J.STEVENS A&T Co/ CHICOPEE FALLS.MASS.U.S.A. .22-LONG RIFLE”.    

Barrel Length: 22”. Round

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Beach sight dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight has been remover leaving the dovetail open.   There is an aperture sight mounted to the top tang.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The stocks are two piece smooth walnut with straight wrist, straight comb, steel butt plate, and splintered fore end.   There are no cracks or chips.  There are scratches and compression marks throughout. The LOP measures 13" from the front trigger to the back of the butt plate. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.  

Type of Finish: Blued, case colored

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition:  The bore is mostly bright with defined rifling. There is light intermittent erosion in the bore.  In the auction house's opinion the bore rates 7/10.  I think it is at least that if not higher.

Overall Condition:  The barrel retains most of its bluing but has intermittent areas of finish loss and general patina.  The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are mostly clear. There are minor scratches and scuffs.  Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly. I have not loaded or fired this rifle, nor did the auction house I obtained it from. As with all used firearms an inspection by a qualified gunsmith is required if you intend to fire this rifle.  A thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet all your maintenance standards.
