This is the "other" bison horn cap hat rack.  The first one sold last night - picture deleted.

This one, the one below, appears to have the original horn part and roughly 3"x4" bar that they are mounted on ... that has been attached with some flat metal stock to the reddish wood base or stand.  That, too, is old, but not nearly as old as the original mounting.

The horns are 20" across; the wood is 11" wide, 11" deep and 11" tall.  If it were me I'd remove the wood stand and hang it up as I believe originally intended.  Someone want it that way I will do it before shipping!

This one still has red velvet cloth strips covering/decorating the horn bases.  Looks to me like some tacks have been added to a couple, probably as the original fasteners gave out.  The original wood block is covered by an old ... and very worn ... velour fabric.  Again, the original was done, in my estimation, in the late 1800's ... and was done very well for that time.

Like the other one, three pair of bison horns - a bull, a cow and a yearling.

Polishing horn caps - the black "fingernail-like" outer covering part of the bison's horns is not something to be undertaken lightly.  It's like a nail salon times a bunch as to the dust, the burning odor and the mess.  These horn caps were smoothed off, but not polished to pure black.  Polished back when things were done with more of an eye to end result.

This inset picture on the left (which sold at auction for almost 4 times our original price on our set) is just to show how the fabric was wrapped around the horns.   These are hard to find and bring a heck of a price.  That's why it will go to auction in January if no one grabs it first.

Reason being that most, if not all, of these were made by furniture companies using "scrap" fabrics.  And since around that time bison horns were a great product for chair and sofa feet, they had the materials on hand.   You could restore this one without a great amount of work. ... or leave it rustic and just wonder about where is was made and who's hat's may have hung on it.
