What a sweet piece of weaponry history!  Made just before the start of the Civil War - c 1869, This model - the 1849 pocket pistol, was the replacement for the earlier "Baby Dragoon".  It was the most widely produced of any Colt percussion pistol with nearly 340,000 of these produced at Colt;s Hartford Factory by the end of the Civil War (1865).

These were rather intricately factory engraved on the cylinders.  This one depicts a Stagecoach Robbery!.  Focal point is a stage drawn by 4 horses.  A women in a dress is seen framed in the doorway side of the coach.  THe driver stands alongside wielding his pistol against multiple assailants as the horses rear and struggle against their harnesses.  Several bandits lay dying on the ground, two more running away and one more in the process of falling dead after being shot.

Not a bad way to show interested buyers what a pistol like this one would be good for.

Overall condition is very good.  Old re-finish.  Excellent action.  Good bore with strong rifling.  Walnut grip is in very good shape with less than average wear.  Numbers match.

However, as with all our antique firearms, we sell then solely as non firing, non working.  We strongly discourage attempting to fire a gun of this age without having a well qualified gunsmith inspect and instruct you according.  You assume all risk if used for other than display.

Barrel is 4 inches

Caliber .31 percussion
