BOOKS - Two Evil Isms; Pinkertonism and Anarchism - Charles A. Siringo

This is fascinating.  This is the third of the books Siringo wrote.  The first in 1885; A Texas Cowboy or Fifteen Years on the Hurricane Deck of a Spanish Pony is a classic expose of his time working the range.  Click here if interested

His second book; A Cowboy Detective; A True Story of Twenty-Two Years with a World-Famous Detective Agency broke him.  The Pinkerton Detective Agency, that "World Famous" one, took him to court ... repeatedly ... until he almost quit.  But he did not.  (The 4th is "Billy the Kid")

This book was a challenge to them - try it again.  They did .... and virtually every copy of this book that was printed in 1915 got hauled in and destroyed.  I've seen one copy available and they want $6500 for it.  However, the copy that made it to the Library of Congress in 1915 is the one that all these facsimile copies derive from.  There was an 1967 version, a 2004 version and this one in 2018.  They all contain the exact words Siringo used; misspelling, mispunctuation ... the whole blood and guts.

I just got these in but the first copy is already on my reading table.  I'll report back!
