This is a very nice 7 volume set of reference works from the Grolier Society on various geographic areas and their inhabitants - historic and current. The titles are;
- British Isles and Western Europe
- Baltic States and Central Europe
- The Near and the Middle East
- Southeast Asia and the Far East
- Africa, Australia and the Southern Islands
- Canada and the United States
- Latin America and General Articles
Other than nice dark brown covers in excellent condition, this does make a nice display set ... if you need one. The covers are very nice and with a pressed or embosses design ... just that brown doesn't show off like some brighter colors.
To explain, you have to first look to "The Grolier Club". Founded in 1884, the Grolier Club is America’s oldest and largest society for bibliophiles and enthusiasts in the graphic arts. Named for Jean Grolier (1489 or 90-1565), the Renaissance collector renowned for sharing his library with friends, the Club’s objective is to promote “the study, collecting, and appreciation of books and works on paper.”
Through the concerted efforts of an international network of over eight hundred members—book and print collectors, antiquarian book dealers, librarians, designers, fine printers, binders, and other artisans—the Grolier Club pursues this mission through its library, its public exhibitions and lectures, and its long and distinguished series of publications. https://www.instagram.com/grolierclub/?hl=en.
This is one of their well researched and beautifully printed/bound/illustrated/documented works. And less than $10 per book. Shipping on the set will need to be $25.00 ... and that probably won't cover actual, but it will work.
