Dobie was all Texas. As the intro flap to the book says; :Born in 1888, J. Frank Dobie grew up in the bleak, South Texas brush country when the open range days of the great cattle drives had just passed." He grew up in the grit and the reality that were really tough times. His literature always reflects that honesty. This book gives the reader a solid background of the "thinkin" and "reflections" of those beliefs. Excellent read!
