THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER; by the Society For Promoting Christian Knowledge
The Oxford Press, circa 1880s. 140 pages. 3” x 4.5” approx.
This handsome red leather-bound edition of the Book of Common Prayer is inscribed to one Charles Henry Barker, dated May 22, 1889, and contains all the services of a church service, including prayers, orders of baptism, marriage & burial rights, the Psalms, ordination… you name it, it’s in here! Exterior red leather boards a bit scuffed here and there, but for the most part are Very Good. Interior pages are off-white and crisp, with the only notable blemish what appears to be a drop of paint on the inside back board
Founded in 1698, the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK) is a Christian charity headquartered in the United Kingdom. Per Wiki, the SPCK is “the oldest Anglican mission in the world, though it is now more ecumenical in outlook and publishes books for a wide range of Christian denominations.”
Note: Ronson says there are multiple versions of this Book of Common Prayer; differing sizes, covers .... and prices. If you are interested in seeing what else is available just write, call or ask me. Be glad to share what we have.
