I sure do appreciate all of you who have "jumped" on to the "Wholesale Lots". It is giving me room in the Distribution Center for the NEW PRODUCTS that are arriving ... finally. "Ballads and Lyrics" - Illustrated. 1880 - selected by Henry Cabot Lodge.
A book intended to introduce children of all backgrounds to literature. The Preface says it all, and I have included it in the pictures.
Lodge was a close friend of Teddy Roosevelt; one of his closest confidants. He wrote over 20 books in his life plus a large number of articles. This was his second book.
Written in 1880, it was re-published in 1882 with the "Preface" included here. Very Good condition; gilt edged and gilt background on the cover. What a great selection of included works; many of which might be a bit lesser known, but of a quality that appeals to both children then .... and adults now. Personally, I do not see this as a kids book, except for that exceptional kid who really wants to delve into some great writing. Maybe that's just my take.
