Harold McCracken was the Director of the Whitney Gallery of Western Art and the Buffalo Bill Cody Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming. He is "the man" ... and his writings ... over 30 of them at the time of this book... are as good as it gets in Western Art. He tells the story in fascinating ways without leaving out details ... but he is, in my opinion, never boring or snobby. He just loved what he did for so long and so well. Mr. McCracken passed in 1983 at the age of 89.
