Walter Buyce .... Buyce Leather, Gloversville NY

Walt is one of our longest running suppliers (except for a short time where I got hacked off at him and "broke up" ... only to make up; couldn't replace him).

We met over 20 years ago at his tiny, cold, workshop in Gloversville.  What a history of leather and leather work that Mohawk Valley, NY town has.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloversville,_New_York.

But this story is about his gloves.... and his dusters.... and his vests.

Persistant is the best word I know to describe him.  Quiet and persistant.  He has kept at it; improving and innovating, and in the process making and selling over 10,000 pairs of bison and deerskin leather gloves of all kinds.  Not all of them were perfect, for sure.  Getting people to "cut and sew" for a wage that will still allow competition with India and China is not easy, but Walt has persisted ... and succeeded.

Probably the second biggest reason for his success is the Sunderland Leather/Colonial Tanning works ... a great old school (like 1930's) bison and deerskin tannery and leather house right in Gloversville.  Walk down the street and pick up your leather; that is what he does.

Walt just let me know that he has bought a pretty good size building; is looking for new leather projects.

Well, maybe it still needs a little thought!!

This is great, world class bison leather - soft and plyable; tough and durable .... and made "useful" to us here by Walt Buyce's "persistance".  Thank you, Mr. Buyce.  Hope to shake hands again soon ... as retirement gives me more time to see old friends and new things.

Best wishes always.

Cecil
