Officers Chapeau or Cocked Hat - with original tin carry case

£770.00

Early Chapeau, made of Beaver, by Ames Sword Company. Black Ostrich feathers.  Black cockade with Cross. This may be an early Knights Templar Chapeau. (The cross is indicative of Knights Templar).  On the front painted on is the name "B. Elliott. RNR." Good condition overall.  The RNR is for Royal Navel Reserve

In the original japanned tin carrying case.

These officer's chapeau, also known as the "cocked hat," was a distinctive style of military headgear that was worn by American officers during the 19th century. The chapeau is made of black beaver fur or felt and features a low, circular crown with a wide brim that is turned up on three sides.

(Yes, I know it is not bison related directly, but these are so historic (and so "cool") I couldn't resist!
