BOOKS - "Friends Worth Knowing" - by Ernest Ingersoll

by eBay
£37.00

I first got acquainted with Mr. Ingersoll by coming across his 8 page article from The Popular Science Monthly Vol. XVII published in 1880.

It was and remains a remarkably accurate and insightful picture of the American bison for the time.  Much of what the author, noted American Naturalist Ernest Ingersoll (1852-1946), discusses still holds true today.   He understood bison so well.  My absolute favorite turn-of-the-century discussion of bison.

So, looking for more of his work here came "Friends Worth Knowing" ... and it includes the Buffalo article.  This is just a hoot ... but what a collection of knowledge on the natural world.   This volume, too, was first published in 1880 ... but little of what he has to say has changed, if at all.

Understand that these "friends" include wild mice, snails and an assortment of birds, among others.

Ingersoll was a very well published author, naturalist and journalist.  His works on shellfish and mollusks is still the industry standard.

These books are reprints of the original work, copied directly from the original and not re-edited.
