These fishing books rival or exceed Hemmingway as to authenticity. Grey was a sportsman; a conservationist at a time when that word really did not exist. He understood the natural world and appreciated it. But ...
He knew the thrill of the catch; of being on the sea, river or lake. No electronic gear to "find" fish. You had to fish and fish hard.
I've has some of the same experiences .... but 50 years late and 30 years ago for most of it, when fish stocks were not nearly the same; big ones were not the same .... but I promise you, when I read these tales, I'm right there with him. I am so glad, this late in life, I've picked up these books of his.
