Yes, folks ... BIG NEWS and GOOD NEWS. Lindsey ... the site manager of the Goodnight Historical Center is working with me on their store. A lot will be carried over, thankfully. We are also building a new house on the North side of US 287 .... and (sssshhhhh) most likely will still have meat and jerky available once we get that done. No; we are not "quitting" - HERD WEAR will continue (while I spend more time fishing and with family). Be sure you are on our email list and also on Buffalo Wool Co's list. Keep checking the blog posts on this website as well ... i will be adding info there about the events ... and they are lining up sweet! Come see us while we are here!
Yes, folks ... BIG NEWS. The Texas Historical Commission has bought the store in Goodnight. We will be there through the end of July, 2024 ... and then on line or by phone. No; we are not "quitting" - HERD WEAR will continue. Be sure you are on our email list and also on Buffalo Wool Co's list.
What a whirlwind it has been...

What a whirlwind it has been...

I was going to write up Ron and my road trip to Atlanta GA, to deliver to the Ahlers and Olgletree Auction Gallery 18 (mostly) original works of art by Rev. Thomas E. Mails; Sharon Markwardt, Dan Mitra, Ace Powell ... and others.  These will go up for auction, without reserve, in January.  More on that later .... but so much has happened since the road trip that enough said for now.

Then a quick stop-over at Herd Wear for Mike and Sharon Guli.

Mike (MJ Guli Designs) does the phenominal bison hide coats and vests - Buffalo Wool Co featured on Thanksgiving day First of the 12 Days of Christmas.

Then there was the whirlwind trip to Las Vegas with my friend and former bro-in-law Randy Shelhorse.  He is retired Air Force 20 plus years of flying every F-4 as well as the SR-71 Blackbird ... and another 28 years on the Seattle Police force.  As with us all, memory is getting "iffy", but we made it, came back to Texas and all he wanted was Texas barbequed beef brisket; got him plenty.

Then the Goodnight Community Thanksgiving dinner.  It has been a tradition here for well over 40 years ... we (all 12 of us) cook and everyone is welcome.  Usually about 100 plus.  That is the blog picture this time.

Then the Texas Bison Association fall conference in nearby Canyon Texas.  Reunited with some old friends, made some new ones, and toured the absolutely state of the art Meat Science lab at West Texas A & M University.  What an experience.  Those kids are our future for making sure that our best kind of protein is safe, well processed and as good as it can be.

Then, a chance to do some Panhandle goose hunting (and some more to come).  Field testing our socks, the Buffalo Wool Company balaclava, putting my well used ULU boots to good use ... and another hunt tomorrow morning.

Then, Thanksgiving with Theresa, Ron and her extended family at a camp over at Ft. Richardson State Park (Jacksboro, Texas) for an outdoor feast (goose drumettes included) that seemed not to end.

And now, it will be packing and shipping; taking phone calls and answering questions ... and hopefully doing more video "shopping" calls here at the store (check it out on Youtube ...  here is the cut and paste link) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXG_vvQCRag

So, more pictures, more information, more new innovations with bison fiber and hide all upcoming.  And yes, retirement is being worked on... but retirement is really a state of mind.  Lots of excitement left in these bones.

Best wishes to all (well, almost all) ... always.

Cecil
