Germanic Antique Jaeger Rifle - Engraved - Relief Carved - Full Stock.
Late 1700's Rifle with Brass Furniture
Likely manufactured as a flintlock but updated to percussion sometime after the more reliable percussion firing system was introduced;
Jaeger type of rifle goes back to at least the early 17th Century. They are characterized by its short overall length, robust octagonal barrel and usually a substantial butt stock with raised cheek piece. These originated in the Hesse and Bavaria regions of Germany.
Brass "furniture" - trims
This Jaeger style was very influential in the design of what we call the American (Kentucky/Pennsylvania) style of early long gun as the Germanic settlers brought both the guns and the craft in making them to both parts of America.
