Vaseline Glass/Uranium Glass 3.5" cup plates - Buffalo Nickel pattern
I didn't realize what I actually had with these. two sets of 5 plates each. I acquired these at least 20 ... maybe as many as 30 ears ago. They have been packed in with other "personal" glasswear when I moved out of Ft. Worth and up here to the Panhandle of Texas. Just unpacked them after all this time
It is possible these were made by the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company ... or from molds of theirs. It is also possible that they came from either the Summit Art Glass Company and/or Mosser Glass. The artwork is on the top side of each plate. Older cup plate art was pressed into the underside of each plate. Each plate is 3 3/8" across.
Each center design is a replica of an American coin.
Each center design has a matte finish. Stars circle the outside edge of each plate. All the plates are in excellent condition. Summit Art Glass has a mark of a V inside a circle. They also did not always mark all their glass pieces, nor did Mosser. They also used stickers.
Summit Art Glass Company started in 1972 and is still in operation. They bought many molds from older glass companies that were no longer in business and started remaking some of these old patterns. The Mosser Glass Company began in 1971 and is still in operation.
Anyway, these are great pieces of both kinds of American history; the uranium glass production and the bison.
