Antique Trade-Type Lightweight Percussion Conversion Single Shot Rifle

$645.00

Trade-Type Lightweight Percussion Conversion Single Shot Rifle, NVSN, approx. .50 cal., 26" round barrel cut down at the muzzle, mixed grey and dark brown patinas to iron surfaces, one sling swivel, small patch box on right side of buttstock, large left side of stock's patch box base with sling ring above the trigger group. Decorative brass wire wrapping at fore end muzzle, rear of buttstock, plus eight small decorative brass or copper floral buds. Wood stock shows considerable older varnish finish plus scattered old dings, mars and scratches from carry, handling and storage.

There is also a large bulbous buttstock extension at the rear of the stock. Markings include a "63" stamped on top of the barrel above the front areas of the lockplate. Also, there is a "388" on the right side of the wood bulb attached to the back end of the buttstock. Mfg. date would appear to be circa mid-1800's. The overall condition of the rifle is fair+, with iron parts showing approx. 70% dark patina over scattered pitting, the remaining 30% displaying a gray patina. Wood stock is also fair+ with the above-noted condition, plus there are two hairline cracks on the left side of the buttstock that do not appear to affect the solid nature of the stock.

The style of this rifle suggests a possible Arabic or African origin.
