BOOKS - A A suggested read:
Sometimes I come across a book, obscure in some ways, that just opens doors and windows into this world of bison, western culture people and history. Sometimes it is one suggested by a store visitor. But I will try to keep adding to this list ... one book a every month or so, for your convenience .... and hopefully for your enjoyment.
- The Book of the American West: Jay Monaghan, editor. (1963) This is a big (600 pages) thick (almost 2 inches) wonderful read, made up of chapter after chapter by nine (not counting Jay's commentary) of the most studied writers that the mid Century had to offer. Each a true authority in there own right, but under Jay's guidance there is created a detailed, but never ever boring, word picture of what it must have been. Monaghan (also known as Prof. Jay) is a true expert in the history of American Western Art up to the 1980's. His books on Ace Powell and his collection of Powell etchings and paintings is unsurpassed. One heck of a book. These are all "vintage" copies .. most, but not all, with dust covers (and the names of prior owners. The books are from good to very good condition.
