This is an interesting "piece" of a full hair on winter bison robe. The piece out of the back of the hide is actually now the back of my beautiful "coat of many furs". Little hard to grasp?
Ok, Sue Vinson back 5 years ago did a coat using coyote, bobcat, raccoon, lynx, muskrat, skunk and probably one or two more tanned hides. It was pretty awesome. She swore she would never do another. Well, last spring I asked her to re-consider ... and this summer she did. Picture below. Raccoon sleeves; bobcat side panels, coyote collar and plaquette, bison back.... dang fluffy but so special. It goes with me to Denver ... sure hope it is cold. Coat is not for sale, but Sue is now thinking she could build another if "someone" wanted. Call to discuss.
Anyway, back to the story. The back panel of my coat is that cut-out from the back half of a very large beautifully tanned bison hide. The uncut front part is fully 60"x48", not including the "cheeks" - the longish strips in the front. Full mane as well.
It was a $2250 hide; one of the best I had in stock. You get roughly 2/3 of the hide for roughly 1/3 of the original price.
There is plenty left for several projects ... if you can use it
