Extensive Bison History Map - Heritage Center, Dodge City, Kansas
The first individual offering from my personal art collection.
Only one I have ever seen or found .... thought undoubtedly there were others at one time. It starts with the map William T. Hornaday drew for the Smithsonian back around 1897 - Hornaday's then personally counted bison census; backs up into estimated historical bison range. They the artist here adds some wonderful vignettes ... more than 25 of them ... on historic bison "things" - the great slaughter, the native prospective, buffalo wallows and so much more. Then, the artist points out "bison" or buffalo names and places in each state. Then .... your eyes just keep finding new pieces of this great documentation of history.
The artist is Michael H. Bevans: In researching his name this is what I found:
Bevans, Michael H.

During World War II he played a role in the creation of camouflage. A self-employed artist, his work appeared in Life magazine and he illustrated numerous books published by Double Day. He also created work for the Audubon Society.
